Top 6 Ways To Destroy A Beautiful Smile

We spend a lot of time in the dental world emphasizing how to create a dazzling, healthy smile This time around, however, we’re flipping the script, so to speak. In this latest installment of our Salt Lake Dental Care blog, we present to you, the Top Six Ways To Destroy A Beautiful Smile. Take note so you will know going forward, what NOT to do!

6. Be a Builder Not a Wrecker
Bacteria is constantly trying to build an empire in your mouth, give it what it wants: juice, soda, chewy candy for the small crevices and hard to reach surfaces!

5. Let Acid Rock It!
Energy drinks, diet soda, red wine, coffee, tea. Great at staining and wearing away surfaces. The perfect magnet for acid loving bacteria. So avoid gums with Xylitol and Recaldent and shoot for foods and beverages containing citric acid and the super duper sourest of candies.

4. Enjoy an Overcast Day Every Day
Lighting up and remaining in a tobacco fog is an efficient way to achieve the vibrant yellow hue we’re all (so not ) looking for in the appearance of our teeth.

3. Toss out Toothbrush and Floss
Avoid brushing after every single meal with a soft, gentle bristled toothbrush and fend off the urge to floss twice a day. This is critical if you want the bacteria to take over and result in gum disease and tooth decay.

2. Use Your Teeth as Tools
Hammer, wrench, screwdriver, scissors, bottle-opener. Use your imagination. Who needs a toolbox when you’ve got 32 solid options?

1. Cancel Regular Check-Ups

It is more difficult to ruin your smile if you have regular check-ups with your trusted dentist. Best to avoid them altogether if your goal is to wreak havoc in your mouth.

No, but seriously. We hope that you have walked away from reading this blog with a renewed desire to take care of those enamel-covered marvels that serve you faithfully day in and day out.

Bad Breath Q & A

Murray bad breath exam

Our team at Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS is committed to educating you on the many ways that you can maintain optimal oral health. It’s one reason we consider ourselves your top choice for general and cosmetic dentistry in the Murray, Utah area.

This post offers some answers to some common questions about bad breath.

Q. My wife says my breath is terrible, but I brush twice a day. Shouldn’t that be enough?

A. Bacteria can increase and stink in hidden crevices that can only be reached with floss. Time to start flossing. If your breath hasn’t improved in a few months, make an appointment so we can discuss other possible causes of your halitosis.

Also keep in mind that brushing just the teeth may not remove food particles between the teeth and up in the gums. Gently brushing the gums, sides of the mouth and the tongue in addition to the teeth may make the difference.

Q. My breath seems to get worse during hay fever season. What’s up with that?

A. Allergies can change mouth odor in a couple of ways. First, anything that stimulates post-nasal drip can be a trigger because bacteria at the back of the throat mixes with the mucous and gives off a smelly odor as it breaks down. Second, hay fever medications often cause dry mouth which can cause stinky breath. Antihistamines can diminish post-nasal drip so this is a catch-22. If you take antihistamines, drink water frequently throughout the day to keep your mouth hydrated, suck on sugar-free mints to stimulate saliva production and rinse with a non-alcohol mouth rinse.

Q. What health conditions can cause bad breath?

A. As discussed before, any condition that lessens saliva creation can cause halitosis. It is also a frequent side effect of diabetes, kidney failure, and liver failure. Of course, if your kidneys or liver is failing, you have bigger problems.

Q. Why did my breath become dreadful when I went on a strict low-carb diet?

A. Ketones were most likely the culprit. Ketones are generated when the body digests fat—which is usually the goal of a low-carb plan. On the flip side, sounds like you weren’t cheating!

We hope this q&a provided some answers to common questions. Don’t you think it’s time to secure yourself a consultation with a high-quality dental practice? We will examine your teeth and also answer questions about how to improve your oral hygiene in Murray. We offer a wide array of services, such as general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, sedation dentistry, and dental implants. 6 Ways To Improve Oral Hygiene in Murray

Sandy cosmetic dental and tooth implants

It doesn’t have to take a lot of time to improve your oral hygiene in Murray. In fact, you can form a new habit to benefit your oral health in 10 seconds. At Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS, we help patients improve their smiles with cosmetic and general dentistry. Today, we offer our patients 6 ways to add essential dental care to each day in 60 seconds or less.

Find a better place for your toothbrush.
Look around. In 10 seconds you can probably find 5 places to set your toothbrush that will allow air drying and can curb the growth of microorganisms that a closed, moist environment would encourage.

Leave the floss on the counter.
If you want to build consistency, you need reminders. Deliberately setting out the floss will give you more commitment to using it. And if you see it, you’ll remember that commitment to improve your oral hygiene in Murray.

Swish.
If you’re in 20 seconds already, might as well grab the fluoride rinse and swish away bits of food after flossing and freshen your breath at the same time. 10 seconds is the minimum but 20 is twice as good.

Smile in the mirror.
Check out those chompers. Examine for 10 full seconds. Inspect gums for bleeding or tenderness, missed fragments of food, staining, or other concerns.

Have a water chaser with dark beverages.
Rinse your mouth with a sip of water when drinking cola, tea, or coffee throughout the day. A mere 10 seconds that will curb discoloration.

Call Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS.

Have a short conversation with our team and you can secure yourself a consultation with a high-quality dental practice. We will examine your teeth for far more than 10 seconds and help keep your smile healthy and beautiful. We can also answer questions about how to improve your oral hygiene in Murray.  We offer services such as general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, sedation dentistry, or dental implants. Trusted since 2005 to promote healthy smiles and educated hygiene, we will take care of all your dental needs.

Have You Considered Sedation Dentistry in Murray?

Sedation Dentistry Draper Sedation Dentistry in Murray?

Does your heart start pounding at the slightest thought of having a cavity filled? Do you get sweaty palms when you see a dental practice? Many men and women who have improved their smile with cosmetic dentistry or underwent extensive restoration care chose to use sedation dentistry in Murray. Though the terms ‘sleep dentistry’ and ‘oral conscious sedation’ are often used interchangeably, they are not identical. Let’s consider the three main types of sedation used in dentistry.

Laughing Gas
The first level uses Laughing Gas, or ‘laughing gas’ as it is ordinarily called. Laughing Gas has been used in cosmetic dental offices for decades because it is safe and effective. It goes to work at the first inhalation, relaxes the patient during the process, but wears off quickly after the mask is pulled off. If you need a little help to get through dental services, but don’t want to be knocked out cold, nitrous may be the best option.

Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral sedatives don’t start working as swiftly as Laughing Gas, but they help most patients achieve a deeper level of tranquility. These medications, however, do not usually bring about complete unconsciousness. Thus, oral sedatives and Laughing Gas are used in ‘conscious’ sedation. Two of the most prevalent sedatives used by Murray dentists are diazepam and triazolam.

IV Sedation
IV sedation uses medications similar to those used in surgery and results in true ‘sleep dentistry.’ Most patients are oblivious to what is happening in their mouth. IV sedation dentistry in Murray is often used for services such as root canals, wisdom teeth extractions, and multi-procedure smile makeovers. The sedation will wear off shortly after the procedure.

For more information about sedation dentistry in Murray, call Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS at 801-506-6009. We’d be happy to answer any questions.

What’s New At Your Murray Dentist Office?

Affordable Smile Makeovers In Salt Lake City Murray Dentist

Hello, friends of Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS. Today we’re talking about the modern dental office in Utah. Dentistry is a field of continual innovation. There are always new and improved ways to help Salt Lake City residents have the healthiest and most beautiful smiles possible.

Advanced Dentistry is Changing the Game

Many dental offices in the Sandy, Taylorsville, and Draper areas have found that switching to digital X-rays makes for more effective treatments. Also, the dental images can more easily be stored in a patient’s computer file and compared with past images to track progress. Diode lasers are innovative instruments that allow your Murray dentist to detect bacteria levels in your mouth as well as find and treat tooth decay.

For patients interested in cosmetic or restorative dentistry, CAD (computer-assisted design) technology can allow procedures that involve porcelain crowns and dental bridges to be done in fewer appointments. If you are considering a full smile makeover with dental veneers, the newer and thinner prepless veneers are just as strong and beautiful with more of the original tooth left intact.

Why Visit a General Dentist in Murray? Here’s Why!

general dentist in murray

Teeth are important. We all come to realize this more definitively as we get older. From the obvious functional utility to the important cosmetic nature of teeth, we literally can’t live without them.

Importance of Your Teeth

When it comes to functional utility, teeth are a foundation of our health. It’s how we eat. The condition of our teeth can impose unnecessary restrictions on our diet. With no teeth at all, our diet might be limited to such a restricted range of foods that we don’t get the necessary nutrition.

For those who don’t have teeth, this is an all-important realization. Dentures and other prosthetic solutions can bridge the gap. There are substitutes for the real thing, but having your own healthy teeth is preferred. When it comes to the cosmetic side, a bright and toothy smile just can’t be beaten. You can always improve the appearance of your smile with teeth whitening or dental implants. Healthy teeth are not just the center of our health, they are the center of our social presence. A beautiful healthy smile can be the foundation of strong self-esteem.

Seeking Help from a General Dentist in Murray

A healthy smile is more than just a nice set of teeth. It’s a healthy lifestyle and the launching pad to your personal interactions. Aging does a lot of damage to teeth. The simple process of eating causes wear and tear. A continuous bacterial onslaught threatens the protective layers of our teeth. Cavities, gum disease, and trauma round out the list of detriments that could separate us from our teeth. Healthy oral habits are, of course, the best way to keep your teeth in great shape. Brushing, flossing, and rinsing often are all good ways to make sure your teeth are here for the long haul.

A visit to your general dentist in Murray is also an important part of your tooth health plan. Your dentist can help you establish goals for improving the health of your teeth. Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS can help you discover problems before they escalate and can prescribe special treatments to restore dental health. Regular visits to your general dentist in Murray can become an important part of your overall health plan. Since your teeth are so central to your overall health, it makes sense to have a good trusted provider who can help.
