Hate Your Dentures?

Salt Lake City Dentistry ImplantPerhaps you have heard or seen the dental industry’s advertising about dental implants. Many Salt Lake City dentists claim that dental implant dentures can change your life. Does this sound like big talk? Exaggeration? The team at Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS can help.

Let’s consider the facts about dental implant anchored dentures:

Chewing: An oral implant denture can restore up to 95 percent of normal chewing function. How critical is chewing? Can you chew easily with your current full or partial denture? Can you bite apples? When was the last time you ate a raw carrot?

Fit: Implant anchored dentures stay in place. An implant denture doesn’t slip around in your mouth and cause sores. Implant denture wearers who exercise regularly especially appreciate this benefit.

Appearance: Is your smile attractive? Can you smile confidently? How many denture wearers love their smile? Implant anchored dentures look like natural teeth. They don’t move when you smile, eat, talk, bike, swim, dance, golf, ski; you get the idea.

Bone health: When teeth are taken out, bone recession can occur over time. Because a titanium implant is an artificial ‘tooth root’ inserted into your jaw bone, your bone has a better chance of staying healthy. If there are no other adverse issues present, your jaw bone should remain strong and vital, just as if the original tooth root were there.

Now, Denture Wearers Have An Amazing New Tooth Replacement Option.

If you hate your dentures, we invite you to set up a consultation about dental implant procedures. We can discuss all the particulars including procedure specifics, healing time, and dental implant cost. Then you can decide for yourself if implant dentures will, as promised, change your life.

At Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS, we can make sure you are in good health and that your jawbone is strong enough to go through the implant procedure. Some patients need a bone or sinus graft beforehand. We see ourselves as key members of your healthcare team and are dedicated to your physical, mental, and emotional health. At Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS, we serve the Murray area with general and cosmetic dentistry. Is A Tooth Implant The Same As A Dental Crown?

tooth implants and crowns Murray

The team at Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS would like to clear up the confusion surrounding dental implants and crowns. Many people wonder what is the difference between an implant and a crown.  They can be combined in one procedure. And both can be used with other dental restorations.

Let’s clear up the confusion.

A dental implant can work as a foundation for a crown.

A complete dental implant/crown procedure includes a strong metal post (artificial root), abutment (connecting piece), and a beautiful crown.

A crown can be used to protect a weakened tooth.

Removing decay weakens the tooth. Once the decay is removed, a filling may not be enough to restore necessary strength. Likewise, after a root canal procedure, the remaining tooth may need strengthening. A crown may be used in both of these scenarios. A strong, natural looking crown protects the remaining tooth and functions like a natural tooth

A crown can be attached to a dental bridge.

When a tooth has been taken out, a dental bridge may be used to restore part of it. The reason we say ‘part’ is because a dental bridge does not restore the root of the tooth. A crown can be used with a dental bridge to restore the visible part of the missing tooth. A dental bridge used to replace one tooth requires the removal of tooth structure from adjacent teeth. With a bridge, it requires three crowns to replace one missing tooth!

At Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS, we offer sedation dentistry, Invisalign braces, and Six Month Smiles, as well as general and cosmetic dentistry. Call today for an appointment.

Root Canal vs Dental Implant

Sandy root canals vs tooth implants

The team at Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS  sees this situation quite often. When a tooth’s nerve and pulp becomes infected, a dentist and patient must make a choice of whether to attempt to save the tooth by performing a root canal or to extract the tooth.

There are several factors that influence this decision. These include whether there is infection in the surrounding bone, the amount and condition of the remaining tooth structure, the strength of the supporting bone, and the presence of periodontal disease.

We remove the nerve and pulp of the tooth during a root canal procedur. This tissue contains veins, arteries and lymph vessels. The dentist or endodontist uses files of various sizes to clean out the canals. Once we clean out the roots and widen them, we will fill them with a special rubber material that seals them off.

The root canal is the first step in the complete tooth restoration. After the root canal, without a crown, the tooth will probably become dry and brittle. The final steps are the core build-up and crown. The crown protects what’s left of the tooth and allows normal function.

A root canal is frequently the most conservative treatment when a root is infected or a tooth has severe decay or damage. We have performed root canals with success for many patients and have a very low failure rate.

But there is always a slight possibility that a tooth with a root canal can have complications down the road. If there was a tiny crack in the treated tooth, it can become re-infected. Teeth with curved roots are more difficult to fill and they can also become re-infected. Occasionally, the tip of a file can break off in a root during the procedure and cause problems.

Because there is always a slight risk that a root canal can fail and eventually require extraction, some patients wonder if they should just get a dental implant in the first place. This is not a black and white decision. Like root canals, dental implants have a high success rate. But there are risks with dental implants, as well.

If you have been told that a root canal or a dental implant is necessary, talk with our team about the pros and cons of each procedure. We see ourselves as key members of your healthcare team and are dedicated to your physical, mental, and emotional health. At Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS, we serve the Murray area with general and cosmetic dentistry. Change Your Life In 4 Steps

cosmetic dental and implants

Everyone needs healthy teeth that work as nature intended for a high quality of life and overall good  health. If you have dentures, you know how important healthy teeth are. At Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS, we can help with any denture issues you might be having.

Dentures are obviously preferable to a completely toothless mouth, but they are not issue free. Your mouth works all day long – and dentures can sometimes get in the way.

Dentures can make it difficult to chew and taste food. It’s embarrassing to talk when they are slipping around in your mouth and laughing can dislodge them entirely. They can even make it hard to breathe – and it doesn’t get more basic than that.

Even if you have had dentures for many years, you may be a candidate for dental implants. Dental implants are very versatile and can be a tailor-made replacement for dentures.

Dental implants can be used to replace several teeth and/or anchor over dentures. Mini dental implants (also called denture-stabilization implants) allow your dentist to securely attach an appliance so that it won’t slip or irritate gums. Small titanium posts are implanted into the jawbone and fuse with the surrounding bone, creating a substantial base for an over denture.

Here is the process for implants:

1. Examination and Assessment
During your first visit, our team will take x-rays and assess your mouth and the condition of your teeth, gums, and jawbone. We will discuss options with you and design a treatment plan.

2. Implant Placement
A complete tooth implant and restoration consists of the actual implant or root replacement, an abutment, and final restoration. The first step is to insert the titanium alloy implant into your jawbone. This is not as difficult or painful as it sounds. Most patients are surprised at how fast and easy the procedure is.

3. Integration
Implant surgery would not be successful if your jawbone did not welcome an artificial and non-biological tooth root. Amazingly, in the vast majority of cases, the jawbone tightly fuses with the implant to create an extremely substantial foundation for the last restoration. It takes from three to six months for your jawbone to work its incredible magic.

4. Final Restoration
Whether your final step is a crown, bridge, or denture, we will work with the lab to manufacture a beautiful and functional restoration. A connecting piece called an abutment attaches the restoration to the artificial root(s). The crown, bridge, or denture is all that is visible at the end of the process. Dental implant restorations are essentially indistinguishable from original teeth.

Dental implant patients of all ages are delighted with the better quality of life implants provide.

Take the first step and schedule a tooth implant consultation. This is necessary for making an informed decision about dental treatment.

At Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS, we offer a full menu of general and cosmetic dentistry services. Call us today for an implant consultation.

Let’s Talk About Your Smile! Schedule A Dental Implant Consultation

dental implant free consultation Murray

What’s the first step in getting a permanent tooth implant? It’s an informative, low-key consultation with Dr. Blackwood.

Take Your Time

At Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS, we don’t pressure you into treatment. We simply explain your options. We answer your questions thoroughly. Take all the time you need. We want you to be relaxed.

Tell Us About Yourself

You’ll have the opportunity to review your goals and expectations. Successful dental implant consultations help us furnish the highest level of dental care.

We Will Explain How the Implant Process Works

Because dental implants need to be strong, they are generally made of materials like titanium and are actually placed within the jaw bone.  Within just a few months, the tooth implant will fuse with the bone, allowing it to function and feel like an actual tooth.

The primary limitation of implant dentistry is bone mass: there must be enough bone to accept the surgically implanted device.  If you don’t have enough bone mass to accept the tooth implant, then options (such as grafts) may be considered in order to have the procedure.

We Are Proud Of Our Success

While you are here, you can inspect photos of dental implant patients. You know what they say…a picture is worth a thousand words!

You may be wondering:

  • How many years has Dr. Blackwood been performing implants?
  • What type of specialty training have you received?
  • How many dental implants have you executed?
  • What is the success rate for dental implants?
  • Am I a suitable candidate for a tooth implant?

We will answer all of these questions and can talk about the costs of tooth implants and financing options if needed.

You’ll Like It Here At Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS

We will show you our comfortable, well-appointed dental office and our many patient amenities. If this is your first visit to Salt Lake Dental Care – Clint Blackwood DDS, you’ll discover whether you feel comfortable with our treatment team. (We are convinced you will!)

Are Dental Implants Worth It?

Are Murray Dental Implants Worth It? Are dental implants worth the investment? At Salt Lake Dental Care, your premier general and cosmetic dentistry option in the Murray, UT area, we say absolutely!

A dental implant is a permanent tooth replacement that looks, feels and functions like a natural tooth. Also known as a tooth implant, it goes in place of a root in order to support dental restorations. It can also act as an anchor for other dental prostheses, like crowns, bridges, or dentures.

Dental implants need to be strong, they are generally made of materials like titanium and are actually placed within the jaw bone.  Within a few months, the tooth implant will fuse with the bone, allowing it to function and feel like an actual tooth. The post meshes with the bone to provide a stable foundation. This is critical because the root replacement post helps prevent jaw bone deterioration that generally occurs after a tooth has been lost.

When the implant has meshed securely with the bone (it can take up to six months), a smaller post is attached. This post extends above the gum line. The artificial tooth (crown) is then attached. Same day implants are available for some patients that fit the criteria. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Blackwood about your situation.

The industry-leading dental implants available at Salt Lake Dental Care are extremely versatile and can be used in a variety of configurations. One dental implant can replace one missing tooth. Again, a series of implants can replace more than one tooth or anchor a dental bridge. Denture wearers should know that tooth implants may also serve as a sturdy base for partial or full dentures. When calculating the cost of dental implants, it’s important to compare them to other restorative options such as a dental bridge.

Our team at Salt Lake Dental Care, would be honored to consult with you on dental implants or any other cosmetic or general dentistry services that you may need in the Murray, UT area. Please call us to schedule a visit and to discuss your dental goals and the possibility of affordable dental implants.

How Much Do Dental Implants in Salt Lake City Cost?

Dental Implants in Salt Lake

Looking into how much dental implants in Salt Lake cost and getting an easy answer can be frustrating. But there is a reason for that. We know that it can be confusing to research the cost of getting a dental implant and finding nothing solid on the web. Let us take a moment to explain why most dental sites don’t publish the cost of tooth implants online

1. The Math Might Come Out Higher Than it Should
The number of teeth being replaced may be more than the number of implants needed to cover that section of the mouth. An implant dentist will want to offer accurate pricing rather than scare you away with higher estimates. It takes a quick consultation to review dental history, evaluate needs, and create a treatment plan. This could mean a more efficient surgery with fewer implants, which would also mean a more accurate price estimate.

2. There Might Be Something Better For Your Mouth
While dental implants in Salt Lake really are a state-of-the-art tooth replacement option (much better than a bridge or denture), sometimes the protocol won’t be what you thought it was going to be, or maybe you aren’t a good candidate for the treatment itself. Today there a wide variety of options for dental restoration, so talk with your dentist and see what he or she can do for you.

3. Supply Costs and Lab Costs Change

A ballpark number might be possible to post on the internet but the changing cost of supplies and lab fees make it impossible to guarantee a specific price for full mouth dental implants in Salt Lake. Dentists who offer dental implants can correctly calculate dental implant surgery expenses based on current prices when you come in for a consultation. Please make an appointment to quickly and accurately get the answers you need. Modern Marvels: Dental Implants in Murray UT

Millions of Americans are enjoying the benefits of dental implants, many of them here in Murray UT.  Salt Lake Dental Care is a provider of these dental marvels.

A dental implant is a titanium post that is surgically implanted into a patient’s jaw. They replace the missing tooth’s root, which helps the jawbone maintain its density and prevents bone recession. An artificial tooth is fitted on top of the titanium post.

One of the things that make dental implants so popular is that they blend in so easily with the patient’s remaining teeth. They look and function like natural teeth, and are therefore an excellent long-term solution.

For patients missing all of their teeth, implants can be used to anchor dentures, providing a much firmer, more secure fit. Many patients say they have renewed confidence in  themselves, after years of embarrassment caused by missing teeth.

To find out more about dental implants from Salt Lake Dental Care in Murray UT, contact our office. We also provide general and family dentistry, and cosmetic dentistry procedures like teeth whitening. Schedule an appointment with us today.
