6 Ways To Improve Your Smile In Sandy

dental payment plans Sandy

Who would say no to a prettier smile? I am guessing no one, and now with all of the amazing cosmetic dentistry procedures available from Salt Lake City, Taylorsville, and Draper cosmetic dentists, most dental patients can get the smile they want. Here is a quick look at some of the most popular treatments.

1. Teeth whitening is the most common procedure and it is used to lighten discolored teeth. This quick and easy procedure is usually done in the dentist office, and the results can be surprisingly dramatic.

2. Bonding is a popular treatment that uses a dental composite that resembles enamel. This material is applied to the surface of the teeth, sculpted into the desired shape, and then hardened and polished.

3. Tooth reshaping is a simple way to improve the appearance of teeth. It involves removing part of the enamel and can be used to fix small chips or to change the length or position of teeth.

4. Veneers are custom-made porcelain coverings that are very thin. They are bonded to the teeth and can be used to close gaps or cover discolored teeth.

5. For most Murray, Taylorsville, and Sandy patients, dental implants are the best way to fix a missing tooth.

6. And finally, there is the complete smile makeover. A smile makeover uses a combination of the available treatments to get Sandy dental patients the smiles they want.

Hi. I’m Dr. Clint Blackwood, a local Murray dentist, and I want my patients to have the best oral health possible. I also want them to look their best. My practice, Salt Lake Dental Care, offers the following services:

7 Ways To Fix A Tooth

fix broken tooth Murray

In a perfect world, each of your prized teeth would stay healthy, strong, and brilliantly white throughout your life. The truth is, however, that most Utah men and women will need to restore a tooth at some point.

A tooth can be compromised by dental caries, enamel erosion, a chip or crack, gum disease, or injury. Sometimes old restorations break and need to be replaced or root canals performed decades ago develop an abscess.

Here are 7 different options for repairing a damaged tooth:

Dental Bonding
Bonding, officially called direct composite veneers, is used to repair minor cosmetic issues – small chips, cracks, discoloration, and spaces between teeth. A skilled cosmetic dentist applies moldable tooth-colored composite resin and shapes as desired. The resin is then cured with a special light to harden and adhere tightly to the tooth. Composite bonding is often the most cost-effective option for improving healthy teeth with minor cosmetic issues.

Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin tooth-shaped fronts that are permanently bonded to your natural teeth. They are used when the underlying tooth is structurally sound and free of dental caries. A beautiful veneer can cover a chip or crack or fix the alignment of a tooth that appears slightly off kilter as compared to surrounding teeth.

Fillings
Modern white fillings are strong and inconspicuous. A minimally invasive filling at Salt Lake Dental Care leaves you with more of nature’s prime dental material — your own enamel and dentin. We can also replace old amalgam fillings with white fillings. This makes your teeth look a lot better every time you open your mouth. Get rid of all that metal!

Inlays and Onlays
A traditional filling is shaped and molded after it is applied to the tooth. Because inlays and onlays are constructed in a dental lab, they are typically called indirect fillings. A less invasive inlay or onlay may be used instead of a traditional filling or, in some cases, a crown. Inlays are applied to just the center of the biting surface of a tooth (not to a cusp or point) and are generally smaller than onlays. An onlay restores one or more cusps of a tooth.

Crowns
A dental crown replaces the entire visible portion of the tooth, restoring appearance, strength, and function. A crown is commonly needed for a tooth that has had a root canal, a tooth with extreme decay, or as the replacement tooth in a dental bridge. Attaching a crown to the abutment is the final step of a tooth implant procedure. Crowns can be made of all metal (such as gold), porcelain-fused-to-metal, all ceramic, or all resin.

Soft Tissue Grafts
Gum recession puts teeth and underlying bone at risk. Soft tissue grafting can cover the exposed root of a tooth to impede further damage. Gum surgery is also handled for cosmetic reasons such reshaping a gumline to eliminate a “gummy” smile.

Dental Implants
What if a tooth has to be extracted because it is beyond saving? For many Salt Lake Dental Care patients, a dental implant anchored into the bone is the best solution. A tooth implant consist of a strong metal post (artificial root), abutment (connecting piece), and beautiful crown. A dental implant had many advantages over a dental bridge. They are stronger, provide virtually natural function, prohibit bone recession, and do not influence the surrounding teeth. For patients with numerous missing teeth, custom implant-anchored dentures can be established in any configuration required.

For more specifics about any of these procedures, call Salt Lake Dental Care at 801-938-8855. Thanks for visiting the Salt Lake Dental Care blog. We appreciate your interest in our Murray dental practice.

Gummy Smile?

Gummy Smile? Many Murray cosmetic dentistry patients with a gummy smile undergo crown lengthening surgery to bring proper balance and symmetry to their smile. Gum tissue and, in some cases, bone is removed to expose more of the visible part of a tooth. It is a safe procedure that does not affect healthy tooth structure.

A ‘gummy smile’ is a term used to describe a smile with teeth that appear too short because an unusual amount of bone and soft tissue hide part of the crown. Our Murray cosmetic dental patients who have opted for crown lengthening love how their new perfect smile looks and feels. Some of our Murray crown lengthening patients also choose teeth whitening for an extra-dazzling smile!

Crown lengthening is not used solely for cosmetic reasons. When a tooth is injured and breaks at the gum line or if a filling or crown comes off a tooth that contains decay, crown lengthening makes additional tooth structure accessible for further restorative work. It is also used to treat some types of periodontal disease.

At Salt Lake Dental Care, we perform cosmetic and restorative crown lengthening for patients in the Murray, Sandy and Taylorsville area. The surgery can be performed by a general dentist, periodontist or oral surgeon.

If you are interested in crown lengthening or other cosmetic dental procedures and live in the Salt Lake City, area, schedule an exam by calling 801-938-8855. We are conveniently located at 279 E 5900 S Ste 202 in Murray. When you come in, we can show you before and after photos of Utah cosmetic dentistry patients who are enjoying their new smiles.

4 Murray UT Smile Boosters

Draper cosmetic dental and tooth implants

Hi, my name is Dr. Clint Blackwood. My dental practice Salt Lake Dental Care has been serving the Murray, Salt Lake City, and Sandy Utah area since 2005. Today in my Murray Dental Blog, I would like to highlight four ways you can improve your smile.

1. Teeth Whitening is quick and non-invasive. External tooth whitening occurs when teeth whitening agents bleach the teeth directly. This can be done in your home or in the office of your Murray dentist.

2. Dental Implants are another common procedure that many Murray residents seek. A dental implant is secured into the jawbone to replace the roots of a lost tooth. A crown is then attached to the implant to replace the missing tooth. Along with improving appearance and restoring tooth function, the dental implant does double-duty by helping to maintain the bone support.

3. Dental Bonding can be done with various materials such as porcelains and composite resins. With recent advances in the field of cosmetic dentistry, these materials can more precisely replicate natural tooth structure and appearance. This procedure is commonly used to fix chipped or cracked teeth.

4. Periodontal Plastic Surgery is an excellent solution for gum recession and cosmetic irregularities. Gum tissue is removed or added to give the appropriate framework to the teeth.

I hope this post has helped you to get better acquainted with some highly effective cosmetic dentistry treatments. A combination of procedures can be used to give Murray dental patients a complete smile redesign.

Aching Jaw In Murray?

Hi. I’m Dr. Clint Blackwood, and today in the Murray dentist blog, I want to look at some of the conditions that may result in jaw pain.

Jaw pain may be caused by sinusitis. Sinusitis is the inflammation of the tissues that line your sinuses, and when these tissues are inflamed, the sinuses exert pressure on surrounding areas. If the inflamed sinus is near the jaw, pain in the jaw joint may result. This commonly happens following a cold or when someone suffers from allergies.

Many of my Murray, Salt Lake City, and Sandy patients who come to me with jaw pain have some type of dental problem, such as an infection or a problem in the temporomandibular joint (also known as TMJ).

The source of jaw pain can easily be identified at your Salt Lake City dental office, and treatment can begin from there. But remember, jaw pain shouldn’t be ignored.

If you are looking for quality dental care around the Sandy, Murray, or Salt Lake City UT areas, please consider Salt Lake Dental Care. I have been serving this area since 2005. Teeth Whitening at Your Murray Dentist

Professional Teeth Whitening at Your Murray UT Dentist Teeth whitening is one of the easiest ways to improve your smile in Murray. It is quick, affordable, and non-invasive. Though some Salt Lake City cosmetic dentistry patients experience short-term sensitivity, most experience no tooth whitening pain at all.

If you have looked into Murray UT teeth whitening, you probably already know the basics. The one thing they have in common is that they use a solution containing peroxide to remove the stains that have settled in the natural microscopic cracks in your tooth enamel.

There are many DIY teeth bleaching products available in Salt Lake City and it seems like new ones appear every time you visit the toothpaste aisle at your Salt Lake City grocery or Sandy drug store.

These Murray UT tooth whitening strips and tooth whitening pens can sometimes whiten your teeth a few shades, but the peroxide concentration is much lower than the whitening solutions used in Murray cosmetic dental offices. It may not be strong enough for your tooth stains.

Tooth whitening offered at Sandy mall kiosks is risky, also. Most of these teeth whitening businesses in Utah have no professional oversight and the employees have little dental training. (Except instruction on how to take advantage of customer naivety.)

Clint Blackwood recommends that you use extreme caution when considering a take-home Salt Lake City tooth whitener. If you have tooth decay, gum recession, crowns, or veneers, you should deal with these issues before you whiten your teeth.

The portion of your teeth below the gumline, if exposed, may respond differently to tooth whitener. Likewise, the peroxide solution does not noticeably whiten crowns and veneers. If you use a DIY tooth whitener on teeth with extensive porcelain restorations, you should probably hope it doesn’t whiten too much–you may end up with a two- or three-tone smile!

Even though Murray teeth whitening seems fairly straightforward, your teeth deserve a professional opinion. After all, we are talking about teeth here. You can’t fix an uneven teeth whitening result like you can a bad hair-coloring job.

Schedule a Salt Lake City tooth bleaching evaluation before you waste your money on more Crest White Strips. We can be reached at 801-938-8855.

Soda Spells Double Trouble For Salt Lake City

Soda Spells The Need For Teeth Whitening For Salt Lake City

Soft drinks, soda, pop. No matter what you call it, it seems that these days it’s the dietary villain of choice. Today in the Salt Lake Dental Care Dental Blog, we are going to give you yet another reason to avoid this ubiquitous drink.

For dental health, soda deals a double punch of damage with two of its ingredients: sugar and phosphoric acid.

Sugar is bad for your teeth primarily because it softens enamel and makes the teeth more prone to decay. This is especially harmful to Salt Lake City, Murray UT, and Sandy children and teens because their enamel is not fully developed.

Some people think that they can avoid problems by choosing diet soda for their refreshment, but, unfortunately, the acids found in diet soda have basically the same detrimental softening effect on enamel.

Soda consumption can also lead to discoloration of teeth and the need for cosmetic dentistry procedures such as teeth whitening.

Our recommendation is simple: stop drinking soda or dramatically reduce your soda consumption to improve your dental health. Also, keep your kids away from soda as much as possible so their teeth have the chance to mature healthily.

Can’t kick the habit? Try to drink water right after you have soda and brush more often (but wait a half hour after you consume your soda so the enamel isn’t brushed while it is soft).

My name is Dr. Clint Blackwood. I provide advanced general, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry to the Murray area. I want my patients to have the best oral health possible. I also want them to have the dazzling smile they desire, so if you have any questions about cosmetic dentistry, give us a call at 801-938-8855.
